(NY) Mortgage lender is asking for a document establishing legal interest in a property that hasn't gone through probate
Long story short, the estate owner passed away and never left a will. Me and my family have been living in this property that is still under the decedent's name. We pay all taxes and mortgage dues on time, but we recently had to send our mortgage lender his death certificate to open an insurance claim.
The lender is now asking for documents that establish our legal interest in the property, which we do not have since the estate never went through probate. What should we do? Is the house at risk of being foreclosed if we can't provide these documents? We live in New York
