I’ve been in a rental for over two years where the landlord has refused to fix a lot of things. There is a pool of water under the leaky fridge everyday, the AC doesn’t work and the HOA won’t allow window units, leaky faucets etc. This landlord has a month and a half security deposit that we paid and knowing him I’m afraid he will make up repairs to retaliate against us even though we’ll be leaving the place in much better shape then it was when we came.
What are our options? Can I just tell him the last month I’ll use the security deposit for the monthly rent? Note, we never renewed a lease after the initial one in the first year expired so we are on a month to month if that matters.
