Tips to save money while renovating house

I am renovating my house which was built in 2000. I am planning to turn it into a homestay and I'm trying to cut corners as much as I can without tampering the quality. I have hired a contractor but I usually buy the raw materials myself. If anyone who has built/ renovated a house before can give me some tips on how to save some money as its my first experience and I don't want to spent much of my dads money.

Question With Tricon "Pending ID".....

My wife and i, along with 2 other peopl applied to rent a house, and our application says "Approved, Pending ID". Anyone else know what that means?
