Wanting to work in another state buying a house in another

I'm looking at houses in OH, I have a good job in CA but obviosly cannot remotely afford the taxes, housing, and home payment. I have been to ohio many times and love the area. But I want to stay with my family for free and work in california (higher paying state) and pay for the house in OH. How possible is that?
