Should we sell gold for down payment of a flat?

I have a friend who is a medium sized builder and is building an apartment in one of the new airport road areas of Bangalore and is giving me an opportunity to buy a flat less than the market rate as we are childhood friends. The flat value is surely going to appreciate in the coming years. My wife has agreed to sell half of her gold to help me with the down payment. But seeing the gold rates touching all time high I am confused if selling gold and paying down payment for the flat is a good option.

My wife and i, along with 2 other peopl applied to rent a house, and our application says "Approved, Pending ID". Anyone else know what that means?
