Open mortgage on title

We are currently in the process of closing on a house and everything seemed to be in track until we got word from our attorney that there is an open mortgage listed in the title that needs to be cleared before we can close and the sellers attorney is working on it. This is going on 3 weeks ago now and my wife and I are both starting to get anxious.

We were just curious if anyone has run into this and if there's anything we can, or should do, in our end to try and speed things along

My wife and i, along with 2 other peopl applied to rent a house, and our application says "Approved, Pending ID". Anyone else know what that means?
