Fiancé and I are pursuing a foreclosed home that was built in 1885. We got our home inspection and it went much better than we expected - no evidence of termites or wood boring insects, metal roof in great condition, foundation is good, only some minor electrical issues (my grandfather is an electrician) such as replacing outlets.
We are having a sewer inspection early next week. The main looks to be cast iron, which makes me nervous as it is pushing 140 years old if it is original. There was a front porch addition in 1986, as well as new metal roof in 1986. My question is how likely is it that the sewer was replaced during that time along with those other improvements to the home? Was cast iron even still used in the 1980s?
