Homeowner in VA moving into fiancé’s house in MD—not becoming a landlord, but unclear where this puts me?
Couldn’t find the right flair. TIA !
TL;DR I own in one state, will live in his house in another soon. If I change my address to his, where does that put my house? Or do I not change my legal address? Still going to it multiple times a month, family living it in full-time (I am paying the mortgage, not landlord).
I bought in VA in Oct 2024. I’ll do travel nursing in his area at least through Oct 2026 to be “in” my property for 2 years due to capital gains. Afterwards, I planned on finding a full-time position in MD. Both states have income taxes.
That being said, he is a homeowner and I am a homeowner. Family will be living in my home until the end of 2027 for reasons.
I didn’t plan on changing my address initially, but I probably should have my address where I am working to avoid income taxes double dipping? But if it’s not my primary… is it a vacation? I don’t know how this works at 30, I feel clueless and Google has not helped. I don’t trust AI.
