I'm interested in an abandoned(?) property.

My town has, what looks like to me, a number of abandoned properties. (Our population has been on a decline for decades.)

I'm thinking, if it's just sitting there and rotting maybe I can buy it and clean it up and have a place to hang out and grow a garden or something. Maybe get a garden shed to store a lawnmower, but not have a house or anything.

I would use it for a hobby property where I could go and hang out. But I don't see these places for sale. How would I go about seeing about getting one, and is this a hare-brained idea?

I'd really like to have a place to go and hang out just for some privacy. It doesn't need a structure.

Question With Tricon "Pending ID".....

My wife and i, along with 2 other peopl applied to rent a house, and our application says "Approved, Pending ID". Anyone else know what that means? Making offers on houses not listed for sale.

I want to buy a home for retirement. I am looking at lots of options, mostly focusing on the locations that appeal to me. I see lots of Zillow estimates of homes that look like great deals to me. Are these estimates accurate, even though similar houses in the same area that are for sale are usually priced much higher? If so, is it realistic for me to try to make offers to owners that do not have their homes listed? Would a realtor even consider helping me do this? Or, do these values indicate that the houses listed for sale are overpriced, and I should just lowball until someone accepts?
