We’ve been looking for the past couple months and have finally found the home we believe fits all of our requirements and is within our price range. We attended a lot of the open homes and talked to the agent and he was sweet talking us at the time but when it came to auction, it was basically a total bust. The highest bid was way below what the sellers wanted and we had explained that we couldn’t bid too high because we were still waiting on finance which was coming the next day and didn’t want to risk it (auction was Sunday, Monday we received the finance).
The partner agent told us to just submit our offer on Monday as we still had bidder rights until the house officially goes on the market after auction and so we did - the selling agent immediately declined the offer, which was a really good offer, and reworded our offer email which just made it sound like he was making fun of us to be honest. I understand being irritated by a failed auction but we were not the only people who made it a fail.
They’ve now listed the house “for sale” and the price is set way higher than what they were initially asking for (more than 200k more) and I know that they can probably negotiate down to the original price but I honestly feel so bad about how he treated us after the auction that I’m not sure if we should even give our money to this man. We haven’t found a house better suited for our needs and I know there’s always going to be another house but I don’t know if his rudeness is worth giving up the house we want. I also just kind of feel he may he rigid on the price because he knows who we are and he’d be more lenient on someone else.
