Body:
I'm reaching out to this community to share a harrowing experience that unfolded at One Burrard in Vancouver, shedding light on the sinister underbelly of what appears to be an organized group operating with impunity in our city.
The Onset of Harassment: Yesterday, my sister found herself at the mercy of a group of individuals who seemed determined to torment her. Their behavior towards her was not only derogatory but also blatantly discriminatory. Amidst this turmoil, the concierge, who should have been a symbol of security and assistance, played a shockingly active role in escalating the situation. Rather than stepping in to help, he chose to film my sister, a gross violation of her privacy. He didn't stop there; he verbally abused her, telling her to "shut up" and "watch her mouth." He further demeaned her by audaciously calling her an "asshole." To compound her distress, he disseminated the unauthorized recording, ensuring that her humiliation was broadcast to a broader audience. This entire ordeal not only made her feel unsafe but also highlighted the concierge's blatant disregard for her well-being and privacy.
Escalation to Physical Confrontation: Upon learning of this, I rushed to the scene, hoping to defuse the situation. However, the concierge's aggression was palpable. He brazenly invaded my personal space. And in a twisted turn of events, he played the victim card and dialed the police.
The Police's Role:
Upon the concierge's call, the police arrived at the scene. I had anticipated an objective and fair assessment of the situation. They proceeded to take statements from us and our witnesses. However, the concierge falsely claimed that he had been attacked, even though no such assault took place.
The situation further deteriorated later on. As I was making my way downstairs, I was unexpectedly confronted by the staff manager, Steve. His demeanor was nothing short of threatening, and his words were laced with venom. He hurled threats at me, saying, "I hope you get beaten the shit out of you," and ominously added, "I hope he will get his revenge." His hostility didn't end there; he stooped to the level of name-calling, referring to me as a "clown." His aggressive behavior reached such a peak that his own wife felt the need to intervene, physically pulling him away from the confrontation.
To further compound my shock, when the police made their return, their actions suggested a potential bias in favor of the establishment's staff. In a bewildering move, they attempted to detain an innocent international student, a citizen of the Netherlands, who was involved in the incident.
Police Involvement:
When law enforcement arrived, I expected a balanced investigation. They collected statements from all involved parties. However, the concierge made unfounded claims of being attacked. The situation took a turn for the worse when I later encountered the staff manager. His approach was overtly hostile, with threats and derogatory remarks directed at me. His behavior became so confrontational that he had to be restrained by a family member.
Post-Incident Intimidation: The aftermath of this event was deeply distressing for both my sister and me. We were informed, in what appeared to be a petty act of retaliation, that we were prohibited from retrieving our packages. This decision gives the impression that the entire establishment is collectively conspiring to further intimidate and harass us.
Closing Thoughts: It's a chilling thought that employees of One Burrard can perpetrate such heinous acts and face no repercussions. What's even more alarming is the Vancouver Police Department's apparent complicity in this matter. An employee can harass, humiliate, and threaten tenants, and yet, he continues to clock in for his job the next day.
The recent events surrounding the misconduct at One Burrard in Vancouver have raised significant concerns. What's even more disconcerting is the police's approach to the situation. I was informed that due to these events, there could be implications for the student's study permit. This statement was made without any thorough review of available evidence, such as security footage. Despite the clear evidence of my sister being attacked, discriminated against, and harassed, a police officer prematurely concluded that there was an "unprovoked attack," effectively overstepping his role and acting as both judge and jury.
It's profoundly unsettling to think that employees of One Burrard can engage in such severe misconduct without any evident consequences. The reality that an employee can engage in harassment, humiliation, and threats, and yet resume their professional duties the following day, underscores the gravity of the situation.
I share this not just as a cathartic exercise but to raise awareness about the dark shadows lurking in our city and to seek advice on the best course of action moving forward.
