Can somebody help me understand whether the realtor did wrong?
In 1999, my Dad went behind my mothers back to sell our house in Southern California and convinced his mother to co-sign on another more expensive one nearby. I think he forged a lot of stuff. My mom felt super betrayed and forced to move, and us kids (9th, 6th, 5th grade) were so devastated. When the realtor came through, we tried to send hate vibes at her and even shot nerf guns trying to get her to leave. I still remember her name since we were all so angry. We had actually liked her up to that point because she always gave pumpkins to all the houses in our neighborhood in the Fall every year. But then she came in to sell the house and was totally in my Dad’s pocket doing his dirty work. Honestly, my parents’ marriage was never the same and the subsequent years were really hard. My mom never trusted my dad again because that and other subsequent shady dealings. My aunts and uncles on my dad’s side basically cut us off because he had pressured my grandma into giving him a bunch of money to buy the more expensive house. Obviously my Dad was the main jerk in all of this, but I have always also hated this realtor for selling our house. Did she just not care that she was aiding and abetting my Dad in destroying the family?????
As an adult now, though, I’m wondering whether the realtor actually did anything wrong? Was she supposed to check that my Mom was a willing seller or not? This was 20+ years ago so probably sounds kind of silly, but still curious and trying to make sense of it all.
