We put in an offer on a home in Munster, IN. At first I felt it was too much, though it was less than asking. I still felt antsy, like "I don't know..." Our agent was like "Well, this is what similar places in the area have sold for, and we CAN go lower but it's competitive and they might just walk." We had lost out before on 2 places, both we went in low (but not like CRAZY low). So I trusted him and said "sure." There weren't a ton of places popping up for weeks, most of what we saw in our range was trash (or, rather, needed a lot of work we couldn't do.) Our agent has been pretty good, and is a friend of a friend. On one offer he suggested going lower than we initially did, so I don't think he's trying to rush a sale or fleece us.
Now I'm feeling like "maybe we're paying too much?" The inspection showed a few things, so they're offering to cover more of the closing costs vs. dropping the price or fixing them.
I look at "Sold" on Redfin and Realtor and get a mixed bag. Some places that are similar for way less (like 50-100k) some for about the same. I'm also starting to see other places pop up for less, that look about the same. I know, I get it, I can't say for sure they're "good" without seeing them, but man it's starting to make me wonder.
A lot of people move here for the schools, so I know it's ramping up to get even more competitive. I just feel like we could have done better price wise and it's getting to me. We gave them our earnest money, haven't closed yet either. I don't know if we can get the earnest money back, or if we should risk continuing to look as the market fluctuates. OR just say "whatever" and go with it.
I guess it's probably normal to feel this way when you've not bought a house before (bought a condo, first stand alone house.) It's also not an area I'm super familiar with as I'm from Chicago, and only know Munster from passing through.
I guess I'm just venting and stressing a little bit and looking for any thoughts on it.
