Are there any laws prohibiting a mortgage broker or loan officer in the USA from receiving a referral fee for sending a client to someone NOT in the loan business. For example, if I'm a carpenter, can I give a mortgage broker 5% of the revenue I make off a client that is sent my way by the mortgage broker. In this scenario, the mortgage broker did not lend to the client for the property I'm doing work on, but for a property my client just bought elsewhere.
