As a first time home buyer I thought it'd be great to cut my cost to buy, by using redfin and their refund was a nice 6-9k incentive.
I called redfin looking to place an offer on a home I found that had a offer review deadline within 48 hours. Explained to the realtor the short deadline and need to expedite everything.
I went and got a 10% down preapproval from Bank of America, Another 5% down conventional from better
The Realtor never returned my calls once I had all my preapprovals in order, with a short deadline I clicked the help button on redfin and i was transfered to the Realtors "supervisor", she explained that the Realtor was out of town and I mentioned my displeasure since she knew we had a short deadline.
The realtors boss offered to help me submit my offer it was a fixer upper listed in the low 500's. We received a counter for "best and final" and notified of something like 10 other offers. I bumped the offer by not much maybe 20k, the redfin agent (supervisor) mentioned she called BoA who told her my preapproval was on stated income only (i had already submitted all documentation)
The agent insisted I get another preapproval but with verified income and she trash talked BoA. She generously offered to connect me with her ex husband who was a mortgage broker, I had an acquaintance that was a broker whom I trusted more than this agent at this point so I reached out to him for a preapproval.
He provided me with a 5% down option sent it to the agent on a short time table and he eventually contacted me to warn me that the agent is being super toxic with my offer complaining how i have no chance, showed me some screenshots of her telling him how bad my offer is and all around just being super unprofessional.
Before I could respond to him she called me to tell me that my preapproval was no good and I had mentioned a 10% down option before and she would not work with me based on how bad my preapproval was. She left me stranded mid counter offer and never submitted the counter to the sellers agent.
I tried calling the sellers agent to submit the offer directly but she informed me she could only discuss the property with my realtor. I tried finding other agents but being past the submission deadline I was in a bad spot. Eventually I complained to redfin and they escalated to the redfin agents grand boss whos only consolation was to help me submit the counter offer. By now i was done with redfin and never used them again, opendoor on the other hand was great to deal with and was also offering purchase rebates
TLDR; redfin agents suck.
