A family member has an issue with hoarding. Their condo is paid off and they've been moved out so the place can get cleaned, including calling exterminators for a rat issue.
My question is about maximizing profit when selling. Once the gutting has been done by the clean out company (including removing carpet and a stove that is old and filthy), is it smarter financially to do a basic renovation (paint, flooring, replace the removed appliances), or sell it as is? I'm assuming the latter would turn off a lot of buyers who might be intimidated by a reno, but the family doesn't want to pour major bucks into a top of the line reno if it's just going to be sold.
As a point of reference, another condo in the complex in perfect condition sold last year for over 500k.
