We have a 3 bed 2 bath house, no garage. As you pull up to the house, you can continue down the downward sloping driveway into a carport, which is basically the area under the deck. That car port leads directly into the backyard.
We've toyed with the idea of making it into a garage, but it would be too small to fit a regular sized car.
Now we're thinking that it may make more sense to make it a separate bedroom with its own bath. The entrance would be via the basement, which has its own full sized door since the house is on the slope. The basement is a bar area and has a sink, so water access should be relatively straightforward.
Assuming we can get the permit, which is an if, is there a downside for closing off access to the yard and removing a car port? There is no other possibility of a garage at all, so that idea will forever be bygone (not that it was a solid lead).
